Lone Star Title Sponsor of Blue and Gold Fun Run for FFA Foundation
Fort Worth, TX – The 2014 Texas FFA State Convention, held earlier this summer, attracted a record 12,400 teenage members to downtown Fort Worth, and one of the organization's sponsors isn't surprised.
“The rural population may be dwindling, but FFA, one of the largest student organizations, is not only thriving, but growing," said Troy Bussmeir, Lone Star Ag Credit chief executive officer. Texas FFA currently boasts approximately 104,000 members, the most of any state organization.
Lone Star Ag Credit, a rural lending cooperative headquartered in Fort Worth, sponsored several events during this year's convention, held July 14-18, including the inaugural Blue & Gold 5K Color Run/Walk. The run attracted more than 625 participants from across the country, which included FFA members and advisors, as well as race enthusiasts. Jacob Moore, an FFA member from Kingwood, won the 5K.
“These students are future agricultural and business leaders and we have a deep desire to help them succeed," Bussmeir said. “We were glad for the opportunity to support them in such a fun way and are happy the event was so successful in its first year."
The lender also sponsored the Lone Star Degree, which was presented to more than 2,200 members this year. It is the highest degree of active membership bestowed by the Texas FFA Association.
